Some fabulous aerial shots of our Intercamp 2023 campsite at Vogelsang IP Germany. Thanks, Chocolate for the drone photos.
The weekend saw our group’s welcome return to Intercamp 2023. We have been attending this annual international camp since 2016, with a short break for COVID. This year’s camp organized by the DPSG was held in Germany in the beautiful surroundings of the Eifel National Park in the @vogelsang a former 1930’s education centre and military base that has in recent years been turned into a centre promoting peace. Over 50 members of our group, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and some guest campers from the UK had a great weekend with 3000 other Scouts from over 12 nations, taking part in
For the latest Ukraine Club Meeting the members joined the Vltava Scouts in Letna park for an evening of games.

Squirrels climbed, flew, crawled and helped each other to cross the tall bridge. They were so brave to finish all the challenges. Also, they definitely enjoyed their own roasted marshmallows at the end. And here are the squirrels with cool summer shirts!
Well done to Matt Lightfoot our group Vice-President on his new role as an adviser at the World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM.
Matt is pictured on the left at the WOSM offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Our new summer uniform T-shirts have arrived 🙂 We will be distributing them shortly.
If you haven't ordered your young person's T-shirt/shirts yet you still can, please see our previous post for details. tiny.cc/mv67vz
Thanks to Brook for organising this for us.
Squirrels were in a full of scientist mode! There were lots of curious eyes and surprises. These are the experiments we tried and learned:
1. Density investigation with various liquids
2. Making a volcano
3. Smelly mystery and guess what the substance is
4. Milk food colouring and dish soap experiment
We have the final few remaining badges available for our young people to commemorate this historical occasion. We hope you enjoyed the coverage of the first coronation of a British monarch in the 21st century last weekend! Explorers represented our group perfectly at the Coronation Picnic on Sunday. Like all their badges, they tell a story, reminding your young person of their experiences and special milestones like this one, in their life. There are only a few last badges available to mark this event in time. If you would like to purchase one for your young person, you can still
16 Vltava Scouts, 11 Snezka Scouts, and 6 Explorer Scouts were hosted by the Czech Dragonboat Association on Sunday, for the Czech Dragonboat festival at Zlute Lazne on the River Vltava. Petr Klima from the Czech Dragonboat Association was instrumental in making the activity a huge success, and arranged the formal Scout competition class as part of the event. Thank you to Scout leader Rudolf for the idea, for the preparation, and for delivering the event. We were fortunate that we bumped into Lars Haga, who was there with the Oslo Dragons team, but is also a Norwegian Scout. He
25 of our Cubs, Scouts and leaders spent a fantastic weekend at this years' District camp close to Leurven, Belgium. They took part in activities with many groups in the Northern Europe district, such as orienteering, shelter building, code breaking and night hikes. Both the young people and leaders made lasting friendships with our wider Scouting community! ⚜️
Our Ukraine Club has moved outside and is now enjoying the wonderful Czech spring weather.
So this week we were in Letna Park doing pioneering and learning knots and lashings.
After learning how to tie knots and do pioneering, an ‘A’ Frame race then saw four teams of youngsters pitted against each other traveling across the park.
Well done to Edward Entwistle one of our Assistant Explorer Leaders and Scout Network member for helping out with other members of British Scouting Overseas at the Coronation of King Charles III in London at the weekend. Edward said "Volunteering at the coronation was definitely a once in a lifetime experience" #coronation #praguescouts Ed is third from the left in the photo.
Royal Approval for Scouts!
Our Explorers supported the Britské velvyslanectví v Praze - British Embassy Prague and British Chamber of Commerce Czech Republic garden party at the British Embassy today to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III yesterday. They even got a photo with the British and Malaysian Ambassadors…
WHY YOUR CHILD NEEDS A SUMMER UNIFORM? It has been a long-term aspiration of the group to offer a lightweight summer uniform, to complement our British uniforms, which can be uncomfortable in the summer, especially for the squirrels, beavers & cubs. It is a high-quality Italian brand in Royal blue colour we have sourced locally with our group logo on the front and back. We have ordered the new uniform, and it will be in hand to distribute in the next 4 weeks. This new uniform will be the official summer uniform and is compulsory for all young people to
Quickly putting our new climbing permits to good use, we took our Explorers for a top rope climbing session showing them how to belay and get up routes of varying difficulties… based on some performances we will need to step up our game next time…
We would like to thank the anonymous bidder who bought the amazing picture "Peace" by Prague-based Ukrainian artist Alexandr Onishenko at auction. The auction raised an amazing 90,000kc (3,810 euros).
All proceeds will go to the running costs of the Ukraine Club led by 1st Prague Scout Group - British Scouting Overseas which helps give displaced young Ukrainians "a little piece of normal"!
We are very excited that 1st Prague Scout Group has become a member of the Prague Children and Youth Council (Rada dětí a mládeže hlavního města Prahy) www.rdmp.cz This partnership will help support the future development of our group and provides a number of benefits including - networking, insurance, legislative and funding advice, web hosting and having our interests represented in local and national organisations and institutions. We look forward to working with the council for the benefit of us both.
This week our Ukraine Club members became scientists. They learnt about and tried practical experiments with chemical reactions, liquids, motion and magnetism. There were even some scientific challenges on the way.
In the coming weeks, the club will move outside to learn some practical scouting skills like pioneering and tent camping skills. Thanks to Nadace Komerční banky, a.s. - Jistota and British Scouting Overseas for their support in making this happen.
Both Scout troops had the opportunity to practice drawing 3D objects with perspective. Leaders Jamie and Liz both ran fantastic sessions. A special thanks to parent Francesca for lending her professional skills to support the subject.
Our Explorers all died…. well none of them managed to complete the post-apocalyptic wide game put on by one our “guest” leaders for this term, which she normally runs with her Polish scouts… can you do any better in cracking the codes?
Amazing weekend with five leaders and one Explorer obtaining their Artificial Lead Climbing permits! Thanks to David Sneddon from Lincolnshire Scouts for the assessment and Lenka from Lezecké centrum SmíchOFF for the initial instructors course. Supported by Praha.eu . #SkillsForLife #praha
38 Prague Scouts volunteered to spend their Saturday volunteering to help collect food donations for those less fortunate.
This is the 4th community event the group has run this year, and the 2nd food collection event. What made the event special, was that Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, and a Squirrel Scout all got a chance to work together.
Thanks to the 12 Leaders and parents that supported the Scouts in executing this selfless act. A very special thanks to Parent Erica, for coordinating the event.
Through our connections with the Italian Embassy the Explorers (and some Scouts) got the opportunity to engage with an astronaut at an event aimed at addressing how for many years outer space has been a place for dreamers, pioneers and experts. Today space is the place to be to enhance comfortable, cost-effective, and reliable support for life on Earth. Leveraging on decades of investments in space sector, technology transfer and a massive use of data from space, both institutional and private stakeholders are deeply involved in the process of providing ground-breaking solutions for terrestrial services. They got to see some
25 Prague Scouts challenged themselves today to cycle 55km from Prague to Melnik. Moreover, all of them successfully scaled Klecany Hill. The group faced off with miserable, chilly weather today, and all the Scouts should feel very proud of themselves for what they achieved.
A huge thanks to the Leaders and parents that supported the Scouts to achieve this impressive feat, and to the attending Explorers, who lead the pack and handled navigation.
A very special thanks to SASU member Katalin, who volunteered to drive the biggest van she could lay her hands on out to Melnik to return the bikes. 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲
Vote for the Summer Camp theme.
Following our request for ideas for this year’s summer camp theme, we now have a shortlist chosen by some of the camp team.
We now ask that everyone in the group young and old follow the link forms.office.com/e/hxq5SrTTsc and vote for one or more of the ideas from the list to select this year’s theme.
The deadline for voting will be 15th April.
This weekend, ten of our adult members spent their time off from work being trained to instruct archery by The Czech Archery Association. They learnt about safety, equipment, planning and technique. They are now fully certified to teach archery to our members. The training, supported by Praha.eu who also supported our group with some brand new archery equipment, will allow young people in the group to experience real archery and maybe inspire them to take up this new hobby. We would like to thank Jana for organising the training and Michal Bidlo from Czech Archery who ran the incredibly informative
WHY YOUR CHILD NEEDS A CAMP BLANKET A camp blanket is more than just a piece of fabric to keep your child warm during their camping trip. It is a canvas to store lifelong memories. Each badge tells a story, reminding your child of the fun adventures, new friends, and valuable life lessons they learned during their time at scouts and camps. As they grow older, they can look back on their blanket and relive those precious moments, creating a treasured keepsake that will last a lifetime. It’s a place to sew on all those badges that don’t belong on
