🏕️ Celebrating Achievement, Music & the Start of a New Scout Year! 🏕️ This Thursday, we came together to celebrate the start of a new Scout year with our young people, leaders, families and supporters — and it was a fantastic evening! 🎉 With a BBQ, plenty of food and good company, we had a great opportunity to celebrate everything our young people have achieved over the past year. 🌭🔥 We were delighted to recognise the achievements of our young people who have gained their Chief Scout’s Awards during the past year. 🏅 The Chief Scout’s Award is the highest award a young person can achieve in their section of Scouts. It recognises commitment, achievement, personal development and taking part in a wide range of activities and challenges throughout the year. It is a fantastic achievement and something every recipient should be incredibly proud of! 👏 🏆 Our Special Bronze Scout Awards We were also incredibly pleased to present one young person from each section with our Group's special Bronze Scout Award. These awards recognise the young people who have really shone throughout the year — those who demonstrate the spirit of Scouting, support others, get involved, challenge themselves and truly embody what it means to be a Scout. These aren't simply awards for completing requirements. They are our way of saying "we've noticed what you do, and we're proud of you." ❤️ 🎸 And then there was the music! We were also treated to some fantastic entertainment provided by some of our Scouts, who perform together in a band. It was brilliant to see our young people sharing their talents and providing the soundtrack to our celebrations! 🎶👏 A huge well done to all of our award recipients, and to everyone who has contributed to another successful year of Scouting. Your enthusiasm, commitment, talents and achievements are what make our Group so special. And now… here's to another year of adventure, challenge, friendship, new experiences and making memories! ⚜️ #scouts #chiefscoutsaward #praguescouts #scoutslife
🌍 Two of our Explorers get ready for Poland 2027! What an incredible week for two of 1st Prague's Explorer Scouts, Viggo and Tudor, who have spent the last week at Poacher International Jamboree 2026 with UK Unit 1 - Overseas - BSO & Gibraltar! Poacher is Lincolnshire’s International Jamboree, held at the Lincolnshire Showground, bringing together more than 5,500 Scouts and Guides from around the world for a week packed with adventure, activities, friendship and international Scouting. But for Viggo and Tudor, this week has had an even more important purpose. They have had the opportunity to meet the leaders and fellow Scouts who they will be travelling to Poland with next year as part of the UK Contingent to the 26th World Scout Jamboree in 2027. Getting to know the people you'll be living, travelling and Scouting alongside is a huge part of preparing for a World Jamboree — and what better way to start than by sharing a week of camp together! Poacher offers a huge programme of activities, from high-adrenaline challenges and traditional Scout activities to new experiences, entertainment and international opportunities. We're delighted that Viggo and Tudor have been able to take part and start building the friendships and team spirit that will help make Poland 2027 such an amazing experience. Next stop: Poland 2027! 🌍 One World. One Jamboree. ⚜️ 1st Prague Scout Group A huge thank you to UK Unit 1 – Overseas – BSO & Gibraltar and the wider British Scouting Overseas for welcoming them and helping them become part of the team! #praguescouts #Scouts #Explorers #Poacher2026 #WSJ2027 #Poland2027 #WorldScoutJamboree #UKContingent #BSO #Gibraltar #Scouting #InternationalScouting #ScoutsOfTheWorld
📬 Post from Mappy the Beaver! 🦫✈️🇫🇷 What a fantastic surprise arrived at the 1st Prague Scout Group this week – a postcard from one of our Beavers, featuring our adventurous mascot, Mappy the Beaver! It looks like Mappy has been having an incredible summer holiday, travelling across France and ticking off some amazing sights along the way. From camping by the sea and visiting the famous Puy du Fou, to seeing the giant mechanical elephant in Nantes, exploring Mont Saint-Michel, and even stopping by Paris and the Eiffel Tower, Mappy has certainly been busy! We absolutely love seeing our young people take Mappy along on their adventures and share their experiences with the rest of the Colony. It's a wonderful way to encourage curiosity, travel, and storytelling while staying connected with their Scout friends over the summer. A huge thank you to our Beaver and family for sending us this brilliant postcard. We hope Mappy continues to have many more adventures before returning home to Prague! 🌍 Where will Mappy travel next? 🦫 #praguescout #beavers #scouting #SkillsForLife

Our Beavers and our Cubs jointly celebrated all their hard work this term by inviting their parents to an end-of-session picnic, full of games, fun, food, and badges. Despite the sweltering heat, it was a time to look back on all that has been accomplished over the last few months and all the adventures we have had together. In addition, we recognized the hard work and determination of several young people who earned their Chief Scout's Bronze Award (Beavers) or Chief Scout's Silver Award (Cubs). Those awards represent many dozens of Scout meetings and camps attended, many hours of learning and effort, and many new skills and challenges undertaken. Congratulations to all those whose hard work has been recognized! Now, on to summer camp and all the adventures yet to come. 🎉 110 Years of Cub Scouting! 🐺 This year, we celebrate 110 years of Cub Scouting—a remarkable milestone that has inspired generations of young people through fun, adventure, and friendship. Do you remember the old Cub Scout badges from the 1950s and 1960s? Back then, Cubs earned badges for skills like First Aid, Gardening, House Orderly, Toymaker, and Artist. The designs were simple, often just a single colour on felt, but each one represented hours of learning, determination, and fun. Today's Cub badges are brighter, more varied, and reflect modern interests—from Digital Citizen and Photographer to Local Knowledge and International. While the badges have evolved with the times, the spirit behind them hasn't changed. For 110 years, Cub Scouting has encouraged young people to: 🏕️ Learn new skills 🤝 Make lifelong friends 🌍 Explore the world 💚 Help others ⭐ Build confidence through challenge The badges may look different today, but the excitement of sewing a new badge onto your uniform and the pride of earning it are just as special as they were decades ago. The adventure, fun, and sense of achievement remain at the very heart of Cub Scouting. Whether you were a Cub in the 1950s, the 1960s, or you're earning badges today, you're part of a tradition that has been changing lives for 110 years. What's your favourite Cub badge—past or present? Share your memories (or photos!) in the comments. #110YearsOfCubScouting #CubScouts #Scouting #ScoutingHistory #VintageScouting #CubBadges #SkillsForLife #Adventure #OutdoorAdventure #ScoutingMemories #OnceACubAlwaysACub
It was a very hot day, so we made our own rain with water guns! We enjoyed lots of team games with the parachute, ball games, and more water fun before finishing the term. We also had to say goodbye to two wonderful Squirrels who are moving to the UK. We will miss them very much and wish them all the very best in their new adventure!
The weather this week was absolutely perfect for a lively round of volleyball. For most of our Cubs, it was a totally new sport, but they were enthusiastic about it. The Cubs with experience were happy to share their knowledge, while we all learned the basic skills of setting, serving, digging, and spiking. We also took time to talk about teamwork and what it takes to make a good team and to be a good teammate. Everyone had a great time enjoying this new sport. We ended with another substantial round of hard-earned badges, including two Silver Awards, the highest achievement for a Cub Scout. Congratulations everyone. Despite the heat, our little squirrels enjoyed a wonderful hike through the forest! The shady trails made for a lovely outing. Along the way, we visited a mini zoo and had the chance to see so many amazing animals and birds. The squirrels were fascinated by the beautiful birds, deer, raccoons, mouflons, and even a lynx!
🍝🌮🌶️ MasterChef came to 1st Prague Scouts! 👨🍳👩🍳 Our Scouts swapped campfires for cookers as they took part in their very own MasterChef competition. Working in three teams representing Italian, Mexican, and Thai cuisine, the Scouts first had to plan their menus, coordinate who would do what, and stay within a set budget and time frame. On the day, each team prepared both an appetiser and a main course, putting their culinary creativity to the test. The competition was about much more than cooking. Throughout the challenge, the Scouts developed their teamwork, communication, and planning skills while serving up some delicious dishes along the way. The judges had a difficult task, with all three teams producing impressive meals, but after much deliberation, Team Italy claimed the title of MasterChef Champions! 🏆🇮🇹 Congratulations to all our budding chefs for their hard work, teamwork, and fantastic food. We’re already looking forward to the next culinary challenge! #futurechefschallenge #scoutscancook #britishscoutingoverseas #praguescouts #SkillsForLife #masterchefchallenge #scoutadventure #cookingchallenge #ScoutingFun
The threat of thunderstorms kept our Cubs close to our Gilwell Centre - Prague base this week as we prepared for the rapidly approaching Group Summer Camp in July. "A week at camp is worth six months of theory," said Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell, so we want to do all we can to be ready. We discussed the Countryside Code, as well as what and how to pack. We practiced (and practiced) stuffing our sleeping bags in a fun competition. We even headed outside to practice putting up our tents, which was a great exercise in teamwork and communication. The Cubs are heading into summer confident, untied, and determined. It is going to be a blast. British Scouting Overseas #BePreparedBeReady #SkillsForLife #CubsRule #ScoutsCamping #scoutcamp
🐾 Patrol Animals: More Than Just a Name! 🦉🦊🐺 From the Wolf and Fox to the Owl and Otter, Patrol Animals have been an important part of Scouting since the very first experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907. Each animal has its own character, call, colours, and traditions, helping Scouts build team spirit, identity, and pride within their patrol. We have selected a few from those featured in ‘Scouting for Boys’. Patrol Animals connect us to Scouting's history while encouraging teamwork, leadership, and adventure today. Whether your patrol is fierce like a Wolf, wise like an Owl, or swift like a Swift, every animal tells a story! ❓ What patrol were you in when you were a Scout? Share your patrol animal in the comments and tell us your favourite memory from your Scouting days! #Scouting #PatrolSystem #Brownsea1907 #ScoutTraditions #PatrolAnimals #AdventureStartsHere #praguescouts 🏕️🐾
This week, Vltava and Palava Troops worked towards their Artist Badge! Palava enjoyed a beautiful picnic-style session outdoors, while Vltava had a cosy indoor session with the soft rain in the background. Both troops learned about body proportions, explored how to draw them more accurately, and then practised by sketching each other. It was lovely to see the Scouts focusing, experimenting with their drawings, and encouraging one another as they developed their artistic skills. A creative, calm, and very enjoyable session for both troops!
🚂⚜️ Scouting and the Railways ⚜️🚂 Scouting's connection with the railways extends far beyond getting to campsites and jamborees. Over the years, locomotives and trains have been named after Scout leaders, Scout locations, and Scouting anniversaries, reflecting the movement's influence around the world. Featured here are just a few examples: Gill Clay, The Boy Scout, Gilwell Park, and Union Pacific No. 2010. But these are certainly not the only Scout-related trains. There have been other locomotives, railway carriages, and special liveries carrying Scouting names and themes in different countries over the years. Do you know of any others? We'd love to hear about Scout-related trains and locomotives from elsewhere in the world. Share your examples, photos, or stories in the comments below. #Scouting #Scouts #Railways #TrainHistory #GilwellPark #TheBoyScout #GillClay #UnionPacific2010 #WorldScouting #HeritageRailways
🧭🌲 1st Prague Explorers Prepare for Summer Camp! 🌲🧭 This week, the 1st Prague Explorers took another step towards this year's summer camp by focusing on their Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) expedition planning. The Explorers worked hard to create their route cards, carefully planning their expedition routes, considering distances, timings, checkpoints, and safety considerations. These route cards are an essential part of expedition preparation and help develop valuable skills in navigation, teamwork, and outdoor leadership. It's great to see everyone putting in the effort now to ensure they're ready for the challenges and adventures that await them this summer! 🥾🗺️ Well done to all our Explorers for their enthusiasm and commitment. We can't wait to see their plans come to life on camp! 🌟 #praguescouts #pragueexplorers #DofE #dukeofedinburghaward #SummerCamp2026 #SkillsForLife
This week's Cubs session was all about imagination, spontaneity, humor, and fun. We went through a bunch of improvisation exercises and scenarios to get our creative juices flowing, to think quickly, and to support one another. In the space of 90 minutes, our Cubs were astronauts and singers and pirates and and so much more. In addition, if you notice a wave of kindness sweeping over Prague this week -- don't panic. It is just our Cubs participating in the Good Turn Week Challenge, during which we all really focus on doing at least one good turn every single day. We ended our session by reviewing the posters the Cubs made for the Naturalist Activity badge that identified various trees and wildflowers. 🌊 World Ocean Day 2026 – 8th June 🌊 Today, on World Ocean Day, we celebrate the oceans that connect people, cultures, and communities across the globe. For Scouts, the ocean is more than just a body of water—it is a place of adventure, learning, and responsibility. Whether sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, exploring coastlines, or taking part in beach clean-ups, Scouts develop skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. The oceans provide us with oxygen, regulate our climate, support countless species, and sustain millions of livelihoods. Yet they face increasing challenges from pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. As Scouts, we are encouraged to be active citizens and environmental stewards, helping to protect these precious ecosystems for future generations. Through water activities and conservation projects, Scouts learn the importance of teamwork, respect for nature, and leaving the world a little better than we found it. This World Ocean Day, let's take a moment to appreciate the seas that inspire adventure and commit to actions that help keep them healthy and thriving. ⚜️ How can you help? 🌊 Reduce single-use plastics 🌊 Take part in a local beach, river, or lake clean-up 🌊 Learn about marine conservation 🌊 Respect wildlife and natural habitats 🌊 Share your love of the ocean with others Together, we can help protect our blue planet. #WorldOceanDay #WorldOceanDay2026 #Scouts #SkillsForLife #Scouting #ProtectOurOceans #OceanConservation #AdventureOnTheWater #LeaveNoTrace #ScoutsForNature ⚜️🌊
