Last Tuesday, Scouts started researching and preparing for a presentation about Scouts history. This is the first of three sessions dedicated to the theme. We also had fun with hands & feet pattern game.

Beavers had their first meeting of the year where they were challenged to use their imagination to create something what they think will be real in 100years from now.They draw and build pretty impressive looking flying cars,futuristic houses etc! And of course we started our new "welcome to the Beaver meeting tradition" with choice of doing a silly dance,scout hand shake or a high five

Avast ye scurvy dogs! Leaders Akela, Baloo, King Louie, Mang, and Winifred took 16 Cub Scouts to Beroun for an overnight indoor Pirate camp. The theme of the weekend was Scout values. We made Ballista catapults. We made Pirate hats. We played games. We went hiking at night. The Cubs cooked their own dinner and breakfast. Thanks to leader Wontolla for the quality program plan, and to the 4th Beroun Czech Scouts for use of their Scout house.

Beavers and Cubs will have their first meeting of the 2020 today. Looking forward to see all the kiddos!

1st Prague Scout Group - British Scouting Overseas

Tonight some of our leaders had the second of two sessions running Module 14 of the Adult Training programme. The module called Supporting Young People was aimed at all section leaders and other adults supporting young people in Scouting. It was designed to enable adult volunteers working with young people, to understand and meet their needs. We must thank Chisato for running the sessions which were very enjoyable and informative.

On the last meeting of 2019 the Scouts undertook a review of the year and looked at the best and worst things they had done and thought about what they would like to do in 2020.

Last night Mikulas visited the Cubs to check who had been good this year. The devil accompanied him and was kept busy, rounding up all the naughty Cubs!. We had Amalia play and sing, for her personal challenge, and Marko made a presentation of a recipe he'd completed, which the Cubs when got to taste.

The Cubs made the trip across town to experience a training session learning how to play cricket. A big thanks to leader King Louie for his efforts in making this happen. The Kriketová Akademie čr gave a quality training session the Cubs really enjoyed.

The Scouts had a meeting with Petra, a police woman from the Ceska Policie . They learned about what to do and how to react in case of emergency. In addition the patrol leaders organized some fun game for the whole troop. Finally two new members were invested.

This week our Group Scout Leader Simon and new Assistant Explorer Scout Leader Edward, visited a group of Czech Rover Scouts and talked to them about the differences and similarities between Czech and UK Scouting. It was a great evening which included some terrific baked potatoes to top it off. We were so glad for the invitation thanks guys!

Today Cubs learnt how to use the knife and tried to carve the pumpkin to make Halloween lantern. Cubs learnt how to place their hand to support when they carved it. Everyone carved beautifully in the end. Cubs joined with Beavers to learn healthy eating. We all had healthy Halloween snacks to enjoy!

Beavers had a thrilling spy evening where they got to solve secret messages and take their fingerprints. They manage to solve all the messages that leader Rainbow did for them and a reward they graduated from spy academy and got their Diplomas for their excellent work

Leaders Baloo and Wontolla took 6 Cub Scouts to Belgium to join Cubs from around the North Europe region for Sixers and Seconders BSO camp. The theme of the weekend was Celts and Romans. They learnt the Ogham alphabet, made catapults, swords and shields, played Roman vs Celts wide games, learnt how to highland dance, constructed shelters, and solved human knot puzzles. Wontolla started the campfire dramatically by summoning the spirit of the fire, and Baloo is very pleased that “the old Brown cow” is now a viral firm favorite camp song across Europe. Beavers had skills evening were they learned how to take care of their scarfs(parents, your kids knows now how to iron.. useful isn't it! Lighting the candle without burning anything and master the skill of tying their shoelaces. End of the evening plenty of badges, including special thank you gifts from British Embassy were rewarded and our new beaver got her investiture finally done.

The troop this weekend travelled by train to Bělá pod Bezdězem to have an indoor weekend camp. The Scouts had a great time in the Junak Scout Centre there. They brushed on their navigation skills with a hike and did took part in some other Scout skills, including semaphore, pioneering, fire lighting and cooking.

Tonight the Cubs program was organised by Leader Winifred. The Cubs learned to dance the Waltz. This will go towards the Skills Challenge Award badge, a compulsory achievement for those looking to complete their chief scouts Silver award badge.

Last night we had 19 Cubs, resplendent in their smart new green uniforms. The theme of the evening was diversity and understanding others, which forms part of the World challenge badge. We discussed LGTBQ gender inequality, and the notion of privilege. We ran two exercises, "diversity bingo", and "paying for privilege". The Cubs as a group are to be commended for their engagement with the subject.

This week our newest members learned about navigation skills, while the rest of the troop worked to organise the next camp at the end of the month. We also played some games and had another investiture.

This week the Explorers were learning about Czech history - take 6 influential Czech characters with a role in 1969 and then 1989 and explore how wealth and opportunity is distributed, throw in the Nazis, communism, the velvet revolution and Monopoly and you have a serious subject made interesting.

The group took part in the annual Remembrance Sunday Commemorations at the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Olšany Cemetery in Prague. The group again took an active part presenting a wreath and placing poppy symbols on all the graves of the fallen.

Today Beavers learnt about what the Remembrance Day and what happened in the past. They were carefully listening to Mang and asking many questions. And Beavers sawed the poppies to make a wreath. We made 40 poppies! We are going to place the wreath on the cemetery this Sunday. At the end of the session, we did investiture for the new beaver and also the new leaders!

The group celebrated Bonfire Night with an event in the Scout Centre at Prosek in Prague. Over 150 members and their families turned out for the traditional bonfire and fireworks celebration. The evening included some British favourites like apple bobbing and toffee apples as well as lots of great food. The evening saw over 25 new young people invested into the group and also 7 of our new adult volunteer leaders. 1st Prague Scouts are again supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. This year the Poppy Appeal in the UK and elsewhere is aiming to raise over £50 million to help support serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces community and their families. So please give generously. Poppies will be available to buy at all section meetings leading up to the Remembrance Sunday event at Olšany Cemetery on 10th November 2019 to which all members are invited to attend. This week our Patrol Leaders and their assistants worked on their leadership skills, while he rest of the Troop had some team building activities. In the end the PLs and APLs had to lead their patrols to build the highest spaghetti tower.

Our Beavers have their 1st official Camp without other sections and we have had really busy fun first day! games, learning practical skills, creating art in the forest, talking with other scouts from different countries as part of the world largest Scout event JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet), eating amazing food and singing campfire songs!

This weekend saw the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers camping together in CZ near Sedlčany. The event was themed around Jamboree on the Internet with the group making contacts over the internet with several countries around the world including India and Japan. There were lots of other great activities including an incident hike, campfire and obstacle races. We had 43 members camping during this camp from the three sections. It was fabulous. We even had a special guest Becca a BSO Group Scout Leader from Sweden.

The volunteer leaders in our group are amazing. Some of them gave up a beautiful Saturday to do further training to provide even better experiences for the young people in our group. Fun was had by all and some dry but important subjects were brought to life and made interesting by British Scouting Overseas Trainers John and Chrissy Marr who travelled a 16 hour round trip from Germany to support our group here in Prague.
